Lusaka, 9th July 2019: The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)’s Levy Mwanawasa Regional Centre (LMRC), held a meeting with Mr. Travis Gartner, the Youth Lead Zambia Chief of Party at the FHI 360 Zambia, with the view to partner with the Regional Centre. The programme is in line with the ICGLR-LMRC mandate that of capacity building of key stakeholders in area of Democracy, Governance, Human Rights and Civic Education in the Great Lakes Region. Present in the meeting was Ms. Mareena Mawere, Finance and Administration Officer and Ms. Cheelo Kopakopa, Programme Assistant – Operational Research and Partnerships.
Youth Lead Zambia is a three-year program launched in October of 2018. It is funded by the USAID and implemented by FHI 360 in partnership with the National Youth Development Council and Avencion. The goal of Youth Lead is to support, network, and elevate outstanding young leaders between the ages of 18 – 35 from across Zambia to amplify the impact of their work, inspire civic innovation and promote a culture of sustained leadership.
LMRC has an internship programme which provides an opportunity for young people to substantively contribute to and learn from the work of the Centre. This partnership will be an instrument for strengthening relationships with the USAID – FHI 360, which will also contribute to the Regional Centre,’s human resource.
