Naivasha, 13th – 15th December 2019: The International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR)’s Levy Mwanawasa Regional Centre for Democracy and Good Governance (LMRC) participated in the Technical Activity Planning Meeting for 2020 Of Women, Youth and Regional Fora Organisations in Naivasha, Kenya from 13th – 15th December 2019.
The Objectives of the meeting were to develop a draft 2020 Activity Coordination Plan for advancing Women, Peace and Security (WPS) objectives in the region based on recommendations from the regional meetings held in 2019, develop a Monitoring and Evaluation Mechanism to ensure that the identified activities are implemented as well as to examine the findings of a compiled report on the perspective of Civil Society Organisations (CSO)s about the implementation of the ICGLR Pact and the PSC-F.
LMRC was represented by the Executive Director Dr. Frank Okuthe. Other participants were Office of the Special Envoy for the Great Lakes (OSESG-GL), African Union (AU), Femwise, the ICGLR Executive Secretariat, ICGLR Fora representatives, Centres of Excellence, Independent Regional Gender Experts, UN-Women, National and Regional CSOs working on women rights and security issues and Technical and financial partners.
Workshop outcomes were namely;
• A jointly developed 2020 activity coordination plan for WPS and empowerment of youth in the Great Lakes Region.
• Monitoring and evaluation mechanism to track implementation progress of the 2020 activity plan for Women, Peace and Security.
• Consolidated report on CSO perspective about the implementation of the ICGLR Pact and the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework were produced.
