Twenty fourth meeting of the Technical Support Committee of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Region

The International Conference on the Great Lake Region (ICGLR)’s Levy Mwanawasa Regional Centre for Democracy and Good Governance (LMRC) participated in the twenty fourth (24th) meeting of the Technical Support Committee of the Regional Oversight Mechanism of the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Region from 16th – 17th July 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The meeting was co-chaired by Huang Xia, the United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Gonzague-Patrick H. Balagizi a representative from the African Union and the LMRC Executive Director Dr. Frank Okuthe Oyugi, who represented the ICGLR. Other participants were from the signatory countries of the Addis Ababa Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework Agreement.

Participants critically discussed and analysed the political and dialogue processes, security cooperation and regional approach to address negative forces, economic integration and shared prosperity. Furthermore, participants discussed updates on initiatives to address the root causes of conflict in the region and on-going work to develop a UN Great Lakes strategy – Strategic Review of MONUSCO.

The meeting also kick started preparations for the 10th Summit of the Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM).

At the end of the meeting, participants reviewed and approved the 24th TSC Meeting Report and agreed to hold their next meeting from 10th -11th September 2019 in Nairobi, Kenya.
