Zambian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Applauds ICGLR Levy Mwanawasa Regional Centre
The Minister was accompanied by the National Coordinator of the ICGLR in Zambia, Ambassador General Solomon Mumbi and a Senior Official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The objective of the Minister’s visit was to be acquainted with the programme activities of the Regional Centre and learn more about its operations. The Head of Research, Training and Documentation, Mr Pamphile Sebahara, welcomed the Honourable Minister to the Regional Centre and thanked him for taking time off his busy schedule to visit the Centre as well as presented the major achievements and challenges in implementing its activities. Regarding the implementation of the Strategic Plan 2012-2016 of the Centre, Mr Sebahara briefed the Honourable Minister that the Regional Centre has developed a strategy to mobilise resources and some results have been achieved citing its selection to host the East African Resilience Hub with other two partners. Earlier on, the ICGLR National Coordinator and Special Envoy Ambassador General Mumbi spoke briefly about the Centre’s operation since inception in 2011.
The Honourable Minister applauded the Regional Centre for its contribution to the promotion of Democracy and Good Governance in the Region. He requested the Centre to send a detailed report to his Office about its key achievements and challenges with a view to explore possibility for the Ministry to complement its efforts. Honourable Mbulu echoed Government’s commitment in implementing the Host Agreement and support to the Regional Centre especially with local staffing recruitment. The Deputy Minister promised to enhance interface between the Government and the Centre at not only civil but also at a political level.
